Five Tips to Achieving Guitar Hero 3 Guitar Mastery

October 28, 2008

If you are serious about mastering Guitar Hero guitar technique then you have got your work cut out for you. Achieving expert status is not going to be attained by occasionally picking up your Guitar Hero guitar and noodling. You are going to have to work at this and not get frustrated. The average person tends to be impatient and easily gives up. Like anything in life, if you are patient, steadfast and diligent you can accomplish most things.

Tip One – Go Slow

Mastering the Guitar Hero guitar is not that much different than learning how to play a real guitar (of course, learning to play a real guitar is much more complex – but the learning strategies are similar). The most important thing that you can do is slow down. You are training your reflexes and muscles to respond in a very refined and complex manner and you need to make sure that each move that you are learning is perfect.

Most of us learn to play guitar (or Guitar Hero) by playing too fast, making lots of mistakes and hoping the these mistakes will eventually just disappear. Well, they won’t!

If you are making mistakes while you are playing then that is what you are practicing and learning. You are just getting better at playing your mistakes. For most people, the only way to eliminate the mistakes and play as perfectly as possible is to play slow.

Once your muscles begin to memorize the patterns the speed naturally develops. For the most part, you don’t need to work on speed. Work on accuracy and the speed will come effortlessly. Take advantage of the slower tempos in Practice Mode.

Tip Two – Practice Short Sections

One of the worst things you can do is just play the song over and over. Most players will find that there is about seventy-five percent of the song that is not too hard and about twenty-five percent that trips them up.

So, work on the hard parts. Isolate the sections that are giving you problems and work them slowly. If you only have twenty minutes to play then why spend fifteen minutes playing the parts that are easy. That won’t help you improve.

Unfortunately, most of us like to do things that are fun. Working on the hard parts is usually frustrating and feels a bit like work. We’d rather just play the parts that we can do well.

I recommend that you take the middle way. Spend a bit of your time doing some serious work on the difficult sections then forget it and just have fun.

Tip Three – Practice Each Hand Separately

You might find it beneficial to try practicing each hand separately. In other words, work on the strumming hand and then work on the fret keys.

Tip Four – Practice Your Hammer-ons and Pull-offs

You may have noticed that the border around the notes changes color during fast tempos. This means that you can stop strumming and just play the fret keys (this would be the equivalent of hammer-ons and pull-offs on a real guitar). What you would do is hit the strum button on the first note and then play the rest of the notes only with the fret keys. Make sure your rhythm is accurate.

Tip 5 – Master the Whammy Bar

Every time you hit a long note you can begin to learn how to work the whammy bar. This will help bolster your Star Power. The faster that you move your whammy bar up and down the more points you will earn.

So get to work and I’ll look out for your Guitar Hero video posted on your favorite video site.

Guitar Hero Wii

October 28, 2008

I think I’ve hit one of the must-have games for any Wii owner that enjoys rock music. You get a physical “guitar” controller with this game, and it’s amazingly fun!

It is one of the most enjoyable games for the Wii. You can download Guitar Hero III, from several sites. If you are going to download the game, make sure you get the guitar controller to play it, otherwise you will be playing thin air for sure. You hold the controller just like a real guitar, and it’s switchable for left handed players. The neck of the guitar has 5 buttons on it that you play with your left hand. In the center of the guitar is a “strum” button that you hit to play the notes. There’s even a metal bar to wiggle, to cause the notes to “bend” to give an extra crowd boost.

The basic game play of Guitar Hero III involves a track of notes that scroll in time to a soundtrack; you finger fret buttons on the guitar controller to make the notes and score points.

There are four difficulty levels. You start with easy of course, where it’s great fun to play along with your favorite songs and just have fun. When you crank up to the higher levels – moving through various venues and unlocking different characters and guitars – the keys get VERY difficult. Still, it’s a blast hammering away at the notes that appear on screen, waving your guitar around in the air and having fun. You hit the matching buttons, and a rock star is made. In Guitar Hero III, you’ll be making the rock with one of the best soundtracks to be found in any rhythm game. The soundtrack covers multiple eras and genres. Classic rock is represented with songs such as Santana’s “Black Magic Woman,” the Rolling Stones’ “Paint it Black,” and ZZ Top’s ” La Grange .” Alternative rock from the ’90s is present in a big way with tracks such as The Smashing Pumpkins’ “Cherub Rock,” Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Suck My Kiss” and Pearl Jam’s “Evenflow” on-hand. Classic punk fans will love being able to play the Dead Kennedys’ “Holiday in Cambodia ,” Social Distortion’s “Story of My Life,” and the Sex Pistols’ “Anarchy in the UK .” Modern rock hits such as Bloc Party’s “Helicopter,” The Killers’ “When You Were Young” and Queens of the Stone Age’s “3′s and 7′s” are also available. And for all the metalheads, you get major classics such as Slayer’s “Raining Blood,” Iron Maiden’s “Number of the Beast” and

If you are thinking about downloading guitar hero for the Wii, make sure you checkout a reliable Wii download site, one that provides the game downloads legally. Most download sites have two pricing band: One is unlimited downloads for a fixed membership fee, and the other is paying for downloads. If you come unstuck looking for games that are hard to find in the stores, then these download sites can be an excellent alternative.

Some of these sites require you to install a downloader program. Be on your guard regarding sites that do this, as those downloader programs are well known avenues for spyware and malware that can infect your computer with viruses. Download guitar hero for wii can be a tricky process as the files are large with lots of musical sound tracks being it’s currently the hottest game. If you’re going to download guitar hero for wii, you’ll need a lot of patience while it downloads.

Be sure to check it out, and make sure you have the right controllers for it! Guitar Hero III as the best tracklist of any Guitar Hero game to date, with lots of master tracks from the original bands and artists, with higher difficulty levels ensuring experienced players won’t get bored too quickly.

That being said, you can usually get through an hour or two before your fingers really start to kill you. If you play with a group of friends, passing the guitar around between songs, that means an afternoon can go by before all of you end up with finger pain. I suppose it’s a built in way to ensure that you don’t play video games all day long.

Guitar Hero 3 Review

October 28, 2008

Guitar addicts, guitar player wannabe’s, and alike, get ready to turn the notch up a bit higher as the new addition to the whole Guitar Hero series amplifies its rock challenge. Guitar Hero 3 houses new beats to try out if the first two bored you just right. Be amazed with new sets to play and more songs that can be downloaded and tried out in reality.

Comparing the first Guitar Hero to the newest one, it was more simple in structure as you get to play some classics and songs that are guitar heavy following what the on-screen bar indicates. On Guitar Hero 3, you have to specifically press on the beat the song you chose is asking. It is by this way that you’ll be able to acquire and accumulate more and more points. On the other hand, if your miss out on the tune, you’ll be distracted by your own off tune cue.

What makes the whole Guitar Hero experience addictive is instead of using the usual up, down, left, right buttons, a guitar console is used. Press the corresponding buttons located at the guitar’s neck then you do the strumming of the strings at the strings area. It’s a whole new gaming experience, bringing you a step closer to reality.

If you think you’re ready to try the real thing then go, get out and purchase a real guitar. There are actually available good quality guitars online that can be readily shipped to your house. Just make sure to choose wisely and ask experts what would work best for a beginner.

Guitar Hero Aerosmith

October 28, 2008

Let me just start off by saying yes, this is a good game and if you like both elements (guitar hero & Aerosmith) then you will have a good time. There, that’s for the review skimmers; I know you’re out there. I should also note that I’m not an expert player, in fact I’d rather learn to play while head banging as oppose to expert on hyper speed. Now then, what else can be said about this game? It’s on some pretty major consoles and comes with either two guitars or a sweet Aerosmith face plate. It’s the same fret button pressing action as we’re use to with a lot of hammer ons and pull offs.

For starters it’s basically what we wanted Rock the 80’s to be dipped in Aerosmith. There’s a lot of Aerosmith (as you may have guessed) but there’s also some other killer bands including the Kinks, Ted Nugent, and the Cult. All the band elements are here from Joe Perry’s guitars to Steve Tyler’s on stage actions. This is essential for any fan of either series. The frame rate is solid and the lighting and shading effects are really sweet. I also noticed that the Aerosmith band interacts with each other on stage and a little bird told me that will be a must for the up coming Guitar hero games.

The thing that I liked the most about this game was the fact that there was live cameos, not only that, but as you play it really makes you feel like your advancing in the story. Another cool thing is the way the career is set up. You pick your GH character (same as GH3) and there the ones opening for Aerosmith. They play 2 songs and then the crowd demands you bring on Aerosmith. You now play 3 songs by the famous band, as the famous band. The old GH characters have some new styles, but they’re basically the same, No Lou, Rock God, or Robot dude though. One thing that left me saying??? Was the fact the singing was oddly quiet. I mean I know this is GUITAR hero but c’mon, and the fact Run DMC was in this and a guitar player… really?

The venues in this game were pretty neat because you advance through Aerosmith’s history. From the Nipmuc high school to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. If you’re playing on the 360 the achievements are a lot like GH 2, not easy but not impossible. The same number note streaks are here as you may have guessed but they have Aerosmith oriented names. I mean when there’s one for playing as Izzy Sparks called “Dude looks like a lady” you can’t go wrong. There’s no xbox controller achievement here, thank god.

Overall

One of the major downfalls in this game is that there are only roughly 40 songs and no downloadable content on the way. Just a reminder Guitar Hero 3 had more than 70 with extra content so if you’re a guitar hero starter grab that one. Speaking of which there’s a lot of good and bad GH3 qualities here. Some cute GH style in everything down to the text, but there’s still the 50 NOTE STREAK that always screws me up. A nice quality in this game is that they’re honest, if a song’s a cover they tell you and you don’t look stupid for sticking up for your favorite bands. Overall I had a good time playing this game and if you’re a fan of both factors you will be too.
